LYNDON Johnson, manager of the Sutton branch of Jackson Building Centres, has stepped down as regional chairman of the Builders Merchants’ Federation after three successful years.

Lyndon was also a member of the national board of the trade association
which aims to provide business support and advice to builders, plumbers, heating and timber merchants and suppliers.

He has now handed over the chain of office to Ian Carnall, general manager of Simmons Builders’ Merchants in Mansfield, after a chairmanship in which he helped to make the East Midlands section of the BMF one of the most active in the country.

Lyndon said: “During my time as regional chairman my objective was to raise awareness of the BMF across all sectors. In my view one of the prime benefits of the organisation is to bring together suppliers and merchants in an informal setting so that they can discuss common issues.”

The group’s meetings have become twice as frequent during Lyndon’s time in the role and attendance has risen from around 20 to as many as 80.

New chairman Mr Carnall said: “Lyndon will be a hard act to follow but I want to continue to engage merchants’ and suppliers’ interest and make them aware of the benefits which the BMF provides.”

Lyndon joined Lincoln-based Jackson Building Centres at the age of 16, and was appointed as one of the company’s youngest ever branch managers in 1990 at the age of 24.
