JACKSON Building Centres is the main sponsor of this year’s Lincoln 10K Road Race which raises thousands of pounds for charity each year.
The Lincoln-based builders’ merchant has supported the popular road race for the last four years but this is the first time it has been main sponsor. The City of Lincoln Jackson Building Centres 10K Road Race will take place on Sunday April 2 and is expected to attract as many as 4,000 entrants.
Dozens of staff from the company’s 20 branches throughout the East Midlands are currently in training for the event which appeals to novices and seasoned runners from all over the country. The 2006 race is in aid of the British Heart Foundation, which the Jackson’s team is supporting although runners can compete on behalf of any other good causes.
Jackson’s staff are now holding regular training sessions in a bid to get in shape for the run. Marketing manager Colin Bartleet, who is based at Lincoln where he and his team mates regularly train twice a week, said that almost 50 employees would be competing in April.
“There’s quite a competitive edge to the event this year as we hope to better our fundraising total of 2005 as well as improving our individual finishing times,” he commented. “In spite of all the hard work beforehand – and the aching joints afterwards - the road race is thoroughly enjoyable and makes a huge difference to the charities which benefit each year. We are delighted to be the main sponsor for 2006 and look forward to it being bigger and better than ever,“ added Colin.
The Road Race is now in its tenth year and is open to competitors of all ages and abilities. There are categories for wheelchair users and schoolchildren with trophies awarded for the top performances.
The event gets under way with the Primary Schools Challenge at 10.15am. The wheelchair race starts at 10.50 before the main body of runners set off at 11 from Riseholme Road. The exact route is still to be confirmed but entrants will see much of the scenic and historic city as they pound the streets before crossing the finishing line in the grounds of Lincoln Castle.
Application forms for the event can be downloaded from the Jackson’s website at www.jacksonbc.co.uk. They are also available from the Lincoln 10k organisers by telephoning 01522 873792 or e-mailing 10keventofficer@lincoln.gov.uk
