TURN YOUR HOUSE INTO THE IDEAL HOME
IF you dream of having a bigger house, a better garden and all the latest fixtures and fittings, the chances are that you’ll be tempted to start hunting for a new home. If, however, you love the local area, it’s handy for work or the children’s schools and you’re on good terms with the neighbours, then buying a new home might not be your best move.
The alternative is to improve the property you already live in to suit your family’s needs. And, because the changes will be tailor-made, the end result will meet your requirements completely which wouldn’t necessarily be the case even in a new home.
So having decided to stay put and make some significant changes, it’s important to get the right tools, materials and knowledge to carry out the job. Paying a visit to your local builders’ merchant is a good place to start as they often have everything you need under one roof. Jackson Building Centres, which has branches throughout the East Midlands and South Yorkshire, offers customers a one-stop facility with products available for a vast array of projects. There are also well trained and experienced staff on hand to guide you through the practicalities of each particular task.
According to the company’s marketing manager Colin Bartleet, there are plenty of ways to transform your existing accommodation. “If, for example, your main living area is too small, then adding a conservatory is still a popular choice. It will be a separate, self-contained room where you can enjoy peace and quiet as well as making the most of the views,” he explained. “A loft conversion is another practical possibility and the attic is probably the most under used part of any home. With some careful planning, it can be turned into an extra bedroom, a quiet study area or even a luxury bathroom,” he added.
When it comes to increasing the sales potential of your property as well as enjoying the benefits yourself, then a modern new kitchen or bathroom still top the list of what house-hunters value most in a home. According to Colin, it’s well worth making the investment and need not be as daunting a project as it may sound. “We stock a huge range of kitchens and bathrooms and the choice available for every budget is growing all the time. Replacing an outdated suite or tired looking units makes a big difference to the overall appearance of a property and can be completed in a relatively short space of time.”
Making the most of the space outdoors is another effective improvement project. A smart new patio, perfect for relaxing or eating al fresco, will extend your living area outdoors. Likewise, creating a purpose-built play area or installing a barbecue will add a whole new dimension to your garden.
So if your property isn’t everything it could be, get some help from the experts and you could have your ideal home faster than the time it takes to buy a new
one.
