Jackson Building Centres has awarded three of its employees with prestigious awards in recognition of their hard work and commitment - the Nick Grewcock Management Trainee of the Year Award and The Patrick Gilboy New Employee of the Year Award.

The Nick Grewcock Management Trainee of Year 2005 Award was won jointly, for the first time in the award’s history, by Kimberley Collin and Stuart Smith.

Kimberley joined the company having completed a management degree at the University of Lincoln. Now based at the Lincoln branch, her management project was carried out during a three-month secondment at Spalding, where she concentrated on putting systems in place to help prepare for stock takes. Kimberley particularly impressed her managers with her approachability, use of initiative and diplomacy.

Stuart joined the company having had pub management experience in Wales and West Yorkshire. With the arrival of his new family, Stuart moved back to his hometown of Grimsby and decided to kick-start his management career in the builders’ merchant industry.

Stuart is based at the Grimsby branch and his project covered a customer service initiative to develop the retail customer base in the kitchen and bathroom showroom. Stuart impressed managers with his consistent approach and commitment to pursuing a career with Jackson’s.

The quality of candidates was particularlily high this year and the decision was taken to give the award jointly, after it became impossible to choose between the two deserved winners. Kimberley and Stuart shared the award of a trophy and a cheque for £500.

Steve Cranston commented: “Both Kimberley and Stuart have displayed great potential since joining the company. They have consistently demonstrated their potential as managers by using their good judgement, skills and initiative”.

David Cliff won the Patrick Gilboy New Employee of the Year Award. David joined the company in 2004, having had experience in logistics and warehouse management. David, based at the Sutton-in-Ashfield branch, was rewarded for his remarkable improvements to the warehouse organisation and yard stock layout. David was awarded with a trophy and cheque for £500.

Steve Cranston commented: “David has made great achievements in the short period of time that he has been with the company, which have led to operational efficiencies in areas of stock management, as well as an improvement in customer service”.
