JACKSON SPONSORS 52nd LINCOLN GRAND PRIX CYCLE RACE

1st May 2007

Despite the damp weather conditions, one hundred and forty nine cyclists turned out on Sunday 13th May to take part in the 52nd edition of Lincoln Grand Prix Cycle Race, sponsored by Jackson Building Centres.

Jackson has had an association with the popular one-day event for the past two years, but this year it came on board as the major commercial supporter for the 86-mile race.

Andy Williams, Lincoln Branch Manager, said he was enthusiastic about the company’s support of the event and continued: “In order for a successful race in 2007, the Lincoln Grand Prix relies on the sponsorship from the business community. This year, Jackson Building Centres is delighted to have had the opportunity to become the main sponsor of the prestigious event and proud to continue its association with the country’s premier road cycling event. The race now receives world-wide TV coverage, so it is a really excellent sponsorship opportunity for the company.”

Race Organiser, Ian Emmerson, welcomed the company back to the event. This time in a major sponsorship role: “Without the support of the local companies like Jackson Building Centres, it would not be possible for great events like the Grand Prix to take place in the City.”

A dedicated member of ‘Business in the Community’ Jackson Building Centres is regularly involved with supporting local events and organisations. The company is now in it’s sixth year of sponsorship with the Lincoln 10K run and both Lincoln City Football Club, and Lincoln United Football Club, have also benefited from the support provided by the company.

This year’s Grand Prix attracted foreign teams from as far afield as Australia, Ireland, New Zealand and Holland, who took on the best of the British elite riders over 11 laps of the infamous 8 mile circuit.  This year, nearly ninety riders finished the race with New Zealander, Dean Downing, finishing in first place with an impressive finishing time of 3hours, 22minutes and 56 seconds.

Jackson has a history to match that of the Lincoln Grand Prix Cycle Race. Established in 1946, the company has risen from modest beginnings to become one of the city’s main employers. The company has recently opened a new branch in Hykeham, which will act as a satellite branch to the main Lincoln branch.  The company is continually expanding and now operates in twenty-five locations across the East Midlands and Yorkshire.
